This long-term project tackles one of the most beautiful sights of Brussels, not only for its architectural value and history but also for its symbolic dimension of Flemish culture. It has two components: renovating the existing building while providing it with a new 500-seat theater and the construction of a new building adjacent to the theater.

A house on the top of a house. By sliding one volume ahead, this creates a covered outside space on the front of the house and a large outside space on the 2nd floor to the rear of the house. Internally, the plan has a cube in the middle with all the houses main kitchen and bath functions with very few walls on the 2nd floor.

A linear floor plan allows for a very efficient layout and a compact service core. The south facade features large expanses of glass and is protected by a cedar sun screen.

The house is placed carefully in the landscape and follows the terrain as the site slopes towards Nordåsvatn. The form of the house in plan twists and turns to follow the site boundaries. All the bedrooms are downstairs, with one large open room on the top floor.
