This Summer house architecture as self-initiated and self-financed project. The main dilemma for emerging architects is finding clients willing to take a chance with young, enthusiastic architects that have limited experience? When we first started our firm and built such Summer house architecture, instead of looking for clients we went looking for plots, to build an experimental structure like Summer house architecture. Doing this, we could pursue our architectural vision in line with our convictions: uncompromising, original and respect for the landscape.

Designed and built by second year students of the Alice Studio at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, the Evolver is a wooden alpine structure that provides a more interactive way to take in the views of the glorious mountains especially the Matterhorn. Located near a clear alpine lake near Zermatt, Switzerland, the spiraling wooden structure is made of 24 round wooden frames that twist 720 degrees to offer amazing views of the surroundings. As the user walks inside the structure, arches rise and fall, opening up new views along the journey.

Concrete roof beams insulated with foam glass repose on the walls of lightweight concrete, giving a totally impervious structure beneath the skin of patinated copper. Copper ions are neutralised by crushed limestone round the foundation.

This house takes the form of a continuous, long, folded wooden structure that incorporates all the functions of the house. Here we created a clear folding structure that flows up, down, over and under. This structure transformed into all the house elements: walls, floor, roof, seating and roof terrace. The house is created with ecological ambition: It is insulated with linseed fibers, the exterior wood is treated with natural oils. All the wood is from a local sawmill. The house is built on pillars allowing us not to cut any roots or trees.
