This project conducted by the City of Brussels for the Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg was told A.2R.C after an international competition for 3 offices.This long-term project tackles one of the most beautiful sights of Brussels, not only for its architectural value and history but also for its symbolic dimension of Flemish culture. It has two components: renovating the existing building while providing it with a new 500-seat theater and the construction of a new building adjacent to the theater.

The new building consists of three separate volumes. These areas are home to artists, administrative functions and a master volume containing 3 rooms stacked:
there is a large rehearsal hall, a ballroom and a theater-style “black box” whose capacity is 200 people and designed to contemporary performance.
Circulations are peripheral to the central volume which allows a set of transparencies of views and frames on the walkways that connect the different functions.
Successive ramps for possible exhibitions and receptions lead the public to the first floor, the “black box” and the main foyer.

Visible from the square, they also aim to stage the movement of the public while forging a relationship of confrontation “face to face” with the external gateways of the old theater.
Two interior gardens provide relaxation areas for staff and artists within the islet.
